MONACO SCIENTIFIC CENTER
The creation of the Monaco Scientific Center (CSM) in 1960 was motivated by the desire of Prince Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, to provide the Principality of Monaco with the means to carry out scientific research and support the action of governmental and international organisations. Organisations responsible for the protection and conservation of marine life.
In 1990, a major restructuring of the CSM transferred environmental monitoring activities to a state service. The research activity of the CSM is then dedicated exclusively to the study of the functioning of coral ecosystems (tropical and Mediterranean) in relation to global climate change.
In 2010, as a great novelty, under the impetus of HSH Sovereign Prince Albert II, the CSM became a true multidisciplinary Research Institute and integrated an Environmental Economics theme, a Polar Biology department and a Medical Biology department.
