“The Suffragist Movement in the United Kingdom: A milestone in the fight for gender equality.”
DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE
The course refers to a problem present in the second wave of feminist movements: the fight for citizen equality: the right to vote. We will develop theoretical questions that frame the movement, the origins, the antecedents and its irruption in the British public space. The course will propose to cross-examine the struggles, the breadth of its program and its visibility in the graphic media and political discussions. The students will be able to recognize the strong biological imprint of inequality and the empirical and theoretical potential of the concept of gender equality. In the end, the students will have a problematic vision of the suffrage movement and the importance of the recognition of political citizenship.
OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
